The month of December saw more jobs cut than anticipated. Many economists were optimistic that Friday's report would show the economy had gained jobs for the first time in two years; however, they were disappointed to find that the unemployment rate is holding steady 10 percent.
The report proves 2009 to be a disastrous year for U.S. workers. With nearly 15.3 million people unemployed, it only furthers the idea that Main Street doesn't believe the economy is on the road to recovery. Labor Secretary, Hilda Solis told the Associated Press, "The economy is in a rough situation, companies are reluctant to ramp up hiring because they're waiting to see what new simulative steps the government might take to provide relief."
Just when Americans think it can't get any worse, President Obama plans to announce more government spending to create "green jobs." The plan calls for more wind and solar power development which is part of $787 billion economic stimulus package passed last year.
Is this what American workers want to hear as unemployment numbers grow higher each month? The labor force needs real jobs now – not a political promise that only excites environmentalists
